- What is it?
- It is a procedure performed to reduce the size of a contained herniated disk. The procedure provides relief of low back pain and pain radiating into the legs related to herniated disks that have not improved from other non-surgical treatment options.
- How is it done?
- Local anesthesia and IV sedation will reduce discomfort during the procedure. Under x-ray guidance, your physician will place an access needle into your disk; a probe will then be inserted into the disk through the access needle. The probe removes disk tissue, which may relieve painful pressure on the surrounding nerves.
- How long does it take?
- The procedure takes approximately 45 minutes with an additional 30 to 45 minutes of recovery time.
